Legends of the Junction

THE "JUNCTION CITY" RESEARCHERS

Not originally from the Junction, Kristen Buckley moved here approximately two years ago. After completely her undergraduate degree in history at Huron University College in London, Kristen pursued a Masters at York University where she studied legal and social issues in 19th century Toronto. Currently, Kristen is in the process of completing a Masters of Information Sciences degree in Archival Science at the University of Toronto. Kristen is thrilled to be a part of the West Toronto Junction Historical Society Centennial Committee and is happy to consider the Junction home.

David Wencer grew up in the Junction, attending Runnymede & Annette Street Public Schools, and graduating from Humberside Collegiate Institute in Spring of 2001, where he was both a Centennial and Ontario Scholar. He earned his B.A. (Hons.) in History at Queen's University in 2005 (after switching majors several times), where he focused mainly on social conventions and popular culture of Early Modern Europe. Following graduation, he earned his TESL/TEFL certificate from Oxford Seminars and completed the Archival and Records Management Practices program at George Brown College in Toronto. Since then he has split his professional time between the Hospital for Sick Children where he is an archival technician, and the West Toronto Junction Historical Society where he focuses on digitizing the photographic collections and researching street nomenclature. In his spare time he is an amateur rock and blues keyboardist, and maintains an active interest in history of all genres.

The Chair of the West Toronto Junction Historical Society Centennial Committee, Neil Ross has been a Junction resident for fifteen years. Neil began his career as a stand up comedian in Vancouver after dropping out of the University of British Columbia. His Toronto comedy troupe Sledgehammer Pie opened for Jim Carrey. The script for the CBC comedy Sanity Clause, Neil co-wrote with Louis Del Grande, was published in Canadian Theatre Review. He created Nation of Irony Mongers: A History of the Canadian Sense of Humour , a seminar for graduate students at the Humber School of Comedy. Neil performed Stephen Leacock's Whirlwind Campaign to Cheer Up Canada!, a national tour in support of local literacy, sponsored by VIA Rail and McClelland & Stewart. He recently produced Peace, Rights, and Freedoms: A Live History of Canadian Democracy, for the Sharon Temple National Historic Site with Zan Coy and Cara Reeves. Neil is currently developing an independent television/internet project with award-winning photographer Peter Sibbald.
